The IAKS was founded in 1965. The goal of the IAKS is the creation of high-grade, functional and sustainable sports facilities worldwide. The emphasis here is on international exchange and the ongoing development of quality standards.
Being the only non-profit organization concerned globally with the subject of sports and leisure facility development it has been awarded the status of a Recognized Organization by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). It cooperates with the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and numerous other partners. The IAKS contributes to the economic and environmentally friendly realization of sports and leisure facility projects and thus highlights the right of citizens to demand-driven and functional sports facilities.
